Ahane GAA Notes

Senior Hurling : Training continues for the group ahead of upcoming games over the coming weeks.

Junior Football : Hard luck and a disappointing result for our Junior Footballers who lost to Pallasgreen in the East Football Final on Sunday last.

Minor Hurling : Training continues on Sundays and Thursdays.  The mentors and the club would like to wish all those doing exams the very best in their efforts.

Limerick Camogie :  Ahane GAA would like to congratulate all of the Limerick Camogie panel and especially Ahane's Marguerita McCarthy, Sile Moynihan, Orla Curtain, Judith Mulcahy & Niamh Mulcahy (Captain) who won their 1st ever Munster Senior Camogie Championship last week when they beat Cork 1-13 to 0-14.  Limerick's Captain Niamh finished the game with 11 points after a fabulous display of free taking.

U14A Shield County Football Champions : Congratulations to Ahane Ladies Football and to the U14 girls who won the championship yesterday with a superb win over Dromin/Athlacca/Banogue. Well done from all at Ahane GAA and a fantastic result after a great team performance.

Limerick Primary Games : Congratulations to Darragh Lehane of Ahane NS and Rachel Donnellan of Lisnagry NS and an active player with Ahane GAA Club who represented Limerick in the Primary Games at half time in Cusack Park, Ennis on Sunday last when Limerick footballers played Clare in the Munster Senior Football Championship.

As Gaeilge : Míle buíochas leis an lucht éisteachta a fhreastal ar an ‘Oíche Fhilíochta’ i rith na seachtaine. Bhí said faoi dhraíocht ag ár bhfilí, Micheál Ó Siochrú agus Seán Ó Roideacháin,  mar go raibh na dánta chomh hiontach agus taitneamhach sin. Sheinn  Gearóid Ó hAirtnéada ceol binn, traidisiúnta dúinn freisin.  Tosach maith leath na hoibre agus tá súil again sa chlub go mbeimís in ann cur le seo I rith na bliana. Comhghairdeas leis na himreoiri ó Atháin a bhí ar fhoireann camógaíochta Luimnigh a bhuaigh sraith na Mumhan. Seo an chéad uair a bhuaigh Luimneach sraith sinsir na Mumhan. Is breá le gach duine acu bheith nasctha leis an ocáid stairiúil seo.

U6 : well done to all on the great numbers at hurling and football training.

U8 : The U8 footballers played their first county football blitz on Friday last in Mungret, where they fielded 2 teams taking on the likes of Mungret, Pallas/Kildimo, Monaleen and Ballybrown. There was a superb display of skills on show for the crowd that flocked to the occasion, which bodes well for the future of this group. On one pitch, heroic efforts were put in from Kevin and Ewan, while on the other Sam plugged every gap that opened while Shane ghosted all the way up the pitch unnoticed to knock home a fine cross.  Some other highlights included Tom losing a tooth in battle – or perhaps winning an opponent’s – plus Cormac is now nursing a shiner, but as they say “you should see the other guy!”.  A big thanks goes out from the panel and mentors to Mungret GAA for hosting the event, and to all the parents who came along and supported wholeheartedly throughout. The foundations for a great football team are there so let’s continue to work and play together as a team.  Reminder – football training continues on Sunday mornings at 10.30 and all newcomers will be warmly welcomed.  Hurling training continues on Monday evenings - 6pm – 7.15pm with the team taking part in a Hurling blitz in Murroe on 31st May.  For Football - Gumshields are compulsory.  For Hurling - Helmets & Shinguards compulsory.

U10 – The U10 Hurlers were in Harty Park, Murroe last week for 2 highly competitive and entertaining games against our near neighbours Murroe-Boher. A total of 25 of the Ahane U10 panel turned up and the mentors of both clubs decided to have the U10 players from Ahane playing against the U10 players from Murroe/Boher and the U9 players playing against their opposite U9 players. The games were 25 minutes each half and there were fine skills and commitment shown by the players over the course of the 50 minute games. The pitch was in excellent condition which made for very skillful, flowing and enjoyable hurling. A big thank you to Murroe/Boher GAA for hosting the Ahane U10 players and mentors.  Hurling Training continues Monday 6:30-7:45pm and Friday 6:30-7:45pm.  Football training on Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-12:00.

U12 –  The U12 Footballers had their 3rd game of the football league last week when Mungret were the visitors to Mackey Park, Ahane.  The Ahane team put in a great performance and went in a point up at half time against a tough Mungret outfit. Mungret put in a super effort in the second half and with their defence on top ran out winners by 3 points in the end on a scoreline of 2-7 to 2-4. The 16 Ahane players on the night gave their all over the 40 minutes and played some lovely flowing football against a bigger Mungret side. The team ran out of steam in the second half after a huge effort but were very close to taking some additional scores to snatch a win. Well done to Tony in goals, the hard working defence of Paddy, Donnacha, Kyle, Ryan, David and Cian, midfield of Jack and Sean who covered lots of ground and the forwards who took some nice scores on the night of Cathal, James O'M, Adam, Will, Stephen, John and James D - a great team effort by one and all. After the game, the mentors complimented the players work rate and performance - the players can be very proud of their display. Football training on Sunday morning from 1030-1200.  A special thanks and well done to Gary Hussey for taking on the duties of referee and giving up of his mentor duties on the night.  Next up for the Ahane U12 team is another game against Mungret - this time in the U12 Hurling League on Thursday 01st June when Mungret again visit Mackey Park

U14 – the U14 footballers had their first league game last week away to Dromcollogher.  The team was supported by some of the U12 players and came up against a physically bigger and stronger Dromcollogher squad on the night but the team put in an admirable display especially in the second half.  The team is also playing St. Kierans on Monday 29th in the football league.  The U14 Hurlers first league game is on Wednesday 31st May with a home fixture against St. Lawrences.
