Ahane GAA Notes

Family Fun Day 2017 : 03rd June 2017 – Mackey Park, Ahane : what a day, what a turnout and the weather also played its part in ensuring that the children had an entertaining and special occasion.  The day kicked off with the children having a parade of the pitches behind the banners, flags and bagpipes followed by the playing of Amhrán na bhFiann.  Games during the day there were mixed school between Ahane NS, Lisnagry NS and Castleconnell NS and any other children on the day who wanted to play in U8 Boys Hurling & Football, U8 Girls Football & Camogie, U10 Boys Hurling & Football, U10 Girls Football & Camogie, U12 Boys Hurling & Football and U12 Girls Football & Camogie.  The children (and indeed the adults) of all ages enjoyed the bouncy castles, play area for the little ones, tug of war competitions, skills challenges, obstacle courses, face painting, fortune telling as well as having the teas, coffees, juices, hot dogs, ice-creams and savouring loads of home baking, having their photos taken with the Liam MacCarthy, Sam Maguire, Irish Press and the Munster Camogie Cups – a big thank you from all in Ahane GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football to all who helped out on the day, volunteers, sponsors, photographers and to above all the people of the parish for ensuring that there was a great turnout and that the most important people of the day – the children - had fun and made new friends.

Ahane GAA Up for the Match : A fantastic evening was had on the evening of 03rd June when Ahane GAA hosted a Question and Answer evening and had a hugely entertaining chat with Tipperary Star – Eoin Kelly, Waterford Star – Ken McGrath, Clare Star – Niall Gilligan and Limerick Star – Donal O’Grady.  MC for the evening was the one and only Brian O’Mara who put together a professional video incorporating the Sunday Game Music, Video of the Stars in action as well as setting the scene for the Limerick v Clare championship match and getting the views of the Panel.  The evening kicked off with Traditional Music in Ahane GAA Clubhouse with the Hartnett’s from 7pm and the event and chat ran on until late into the night where there was much debate and craic.

Senior Hurling : The Ahane Seniors continue their preparations for next weekend’s hugely important Round 3 Senior Hurling Championship clash with Bruff, fixed for a 7.30pm throw in at Caherconlish on Friday 9th June.  All support on the night will be very much appreciated and please also support our main sponsor Munster Tree Surgeons wherever possible.

Junior Football : Our Junior footballers bounced back from last weekend’s East Final loss to record their first win in this year’s County Division 4 competition with a 1-12 to 1-03 win over Abbey Sarsfields.  There is one more Division 4 match to be negotiated during June before the team begins the East Junior championship campaign on 01-July.

Minor Hurling : Training continues on Sundays and Thursdays with all training non-contact at present due to the upcoming exams.  The mentors and all in the club would like to wish all those doing exams the very best in their efforts.

U6  – well done to all on the great numbers at hurling and football training.

U8: The Ahane U8 Hurlers travelled to Harty Park Murroe on Wednesday evening last to take on Murroe-Boher in a very entertaining Hurling Blitz. The 30 Ahane players made use of the ideal weather conditions to put in an excellent hours Hurling against a very competitive Murroe-Boher Team. There was Great Skills on display from all the boys & girls and you can really see the hard work that the children are putting in at training paying off. Thanks to all Mentors & Parents for your continued support.  Reminder – football training continues on Sunday mornings at 10.30 and all newcomers will be warmly welcomed.  Hurling training continues on Monday evenings - 6pm – 7.15pm.   For Football - Gumshields are compulsory.  For Hurling - Helmets & Shinguards compulsory.

U10 : Hurling Training continues Monday 6:30-7:45pm and Friday 6:30-7:45pm.  Football training on Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-12:00.

U12 : The U12 Hurlers went down last week to a strong Mungret team who were visitors to Mackey Park.  The team put in a good performance and well done to all 19 players but after a lot of games with the schools and with some of the players supporting the U14 team there was a lot of tired players on the night.   Hurling training continues on Monday and Friday evenings at 6.30pm with Football training on Sunday morning from 1030-1200.

U14 : It was a busy week for our Under 14 Group last week.  On Monday evening, the football team played the 2nd round of their football league and went down to a very strong St. Kieran's side. Our squad put in a huge performance on the night especially in the 2nd half led my team Captain Cormac Greaney and including Donnacha O'Leary, Colm Slattery Wright, Kyle Furlong, Jack Butler, Shane O'Grady, Liam O'Mara, Evan O'Leary, Eddie Hartigan, Dylan O'Connell, Gavin Rowsome, John Donoghue, Conor Moloughney, Ciaran Coulter, Niall Byrnes, Alex Holmes, Adam O'Connell, Jonah O'Rourke and Stephen Hassett.  The U14 Hurlers put in a great effort on Wednesday last in their first league match of the season and left every bit of energy on the field - the team were unlucky to go down by a goal in the end against St Lawrence's. There was good news for the group after the game when they were advised that they had been selected to attend an u14 feile inter county competition on June 17th as one of the representative teams from Limerick. It will be a great day out for the team.  The mentors would like to thank the U12 players who supported and played with the U13/14 players on Monday and Wednesday and who are very much an integral part of the U14 squad.  U14 Hurling league game away to Dromin Athlacca on Wednesday 07th June with a throw-in at 7.15pm.

U16 : The mentors would like to wish the very best to those members of the panel that are doing the up coming exams.
