Ahane GAA Club : Weekly Notes 12th June 2017.

Senior Hurling : Ahane’s recorded a hugely important victory in Group 1 of the SHC over Bruff last  Friday evening in Caherconlish in what was a very hard-earned and spirited display against a strong Bruff side.   Ahane were playing with a strong wind in the 1st half and coupled with heavy showers throughout, conditions were difficult, but Ahane didn't capitalise on their superior possession and had to rely on a superbly taken goal by Killian Enright, a point from David Laing and 5 points from placed balls from Tom Morrissey to go in with a very slender lead at half time of 1-6 to 0-7.

Ahane started the 2nd half with a quick point from David Laing, but aided by the strong wind Bruff fought their way back into it and with 4 minutes to play Bruff were in the driving seat, leading 0-14 to 1-08. However Tom Morrissey came to the rescue with a late flurry of 1-02 without reply to give Ahane a precious 2-10 to 0-14 win with Tom Morrissey having a personal tally of 1-08.

The SHC takes a break now until late July, when hopefully Ahane can kick on with 2 more rounds to come against Kilmallock and South Liberties.

Junior Football : Our Junior footballers continue to work towards their upcoming championship schedule in July, and training continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  There is one more Division 4 match to be negotiated during June, at home on 22-June to Fr. Caseys.

Bhí bua maith ag foireann sinsir Atháin i gcraobh an chontae tráthnóna de hAoine i gCathair Chinn Lis. Ní raibh caighdeán an chluiche chomh hard agus a bhíomar ag súil leis toisc an aimsir uafásach a bhí againn. Bhí sé fuar, fliuch agus gaofar.

D’imir Atháin le cabhair na gaoithe sa chéad leath agus ag leath ama ní raibh said ach dhá chúilín chun tosaigh. Atháin 1-6 Brú na nDéise 0-7.

Sa dara leath, tháinig Brú na nDéise ar ais agus nuair a d’éirigh leo dul dhá chúilín chun tosaigh fuair cúlai Atháin an dara cárta buí agus bhí cosúlacht air go raibh  an port seinnte ag Atháin. Ach dhúisigh an mí adh seo Atháin agus d’athraigh roghnóirí Atháin an plean. Tháinig said ar ais le cúl ó Tom Morrissey.D’éirigh leo an bó a chur thar abhainn le dhá chúilín ó phocanna saoire.

An scór deireanach ná Atháin 2-10 Brú na nDéise 0-14

Minor Hurling : Training continues on Sundays and Thursdays and with the state exams in full flow, all training has switched to non-contact for the duration of the exams.  Ahane Gaa wish all our students the very best of luck over this period

U8 : Our U8 Hurlers were in action on Friday evening last when they made the short journey to near neighbours Monaleen for their latest hurling Blitz. Our 24 Players which were split up into 3 teams put in a great hours hurling.  All teams displayed great skill throughout despite the rain that came down during the games.  Ahane had some great scores during their 3 games and showed good improvement in their tackling skills from their last Blitz.  At the end of the games all teams came together for our Team Photo and gave 3 loud cheers for our hosts. This was followed by the now customary chant of "Come on Ahane the spuds are boiling" which could be heard all the way back in Mackey Park. Well done to all Mentors & to all Parents for their continued support. Thanks to Monaleen for hosting & we look forward to our return fixture in Ahane in a few weeks time.

Reminder – football training continues on Sunday mornings at 10.30 and all newcomers will be warmly welcomed.  Hurling training continues on Monday evenings - 6pm – 7.15pm.   For Football - Gumshields are compulsory.  For Hurling - Helmets & Shinguards compulsory.

U10 : Not alone with our U8 hurlers at a hurling blitz in Monaleen on Friday evening last but the U10 Hurlers had 2 teams taking part in a blitz at Monaleen GAA Club as well on a wet Friday evening for hurling. Despite the rain, each of the Ahane teams and 24 boys taking part enjoyed three games of hurling. Both of the Ahane teams played Monaleen, South Liberties and Ballybrown.  All of the matches were competitive and the boys really enjoyed a great evening of hurling. A big thank you to Monaleen GAA for hosting this evenings blitz.

At the end of the game, there was word coming through from Mackey Park that the U12 hurlers had the 2 pitches to themselves on Friday last for training and were really missing having their U10 companions training on Friday evening as would be the norm each week.  Until next week......

Hurling Training continues Monday 6:30-7:45pm and Friday 6:30-7:45pm.  Football training on Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-12:00.

U12 : Hurling training continues on Monday and Friday evenings at 6.30pm with Football training on Sunday morning from 1030-1200.   Next league games are on Thursday 22nd June with U12 Football game away to Na Piarsaigh with the U12 hurlers away to Ballybrown on Thursday 29th June.

U14 : The U14 Hurlers put in a great effort on Wednesday last in their league match away to Dromin Athlacca.  The game was played in Banogue and the first half was evenly contested with very little between the sides.  Dromin Athlacca put in a strong performance in the second half and ran out deserved winners on the night.  The Ahane team were missing a few regulars and started the game with 6 of the U12 players.  Well done to the 15 players on the evening for putting in a huge performance to the end and especially to Cathal O’M who was our 16th man on the evening.  The good news for the group is that they had been selected to attend an U14 feile inter county competition on June 17th as one of the representative teams from Limerick. It will be a great day out for the team.  U14 Football league game away to Pallaskenry on Monday 12th June.

U16  : The mentors would like to wish the very best to those members of the panel that are doing the upcoming exams.

(a leading training company focused on First Class First Aid Training) who arranged a CPR, Basic First Aid and First Responders course in Ahane on Saturday last for some of the mentors.  Thank you to Seanie and Gina for arranging the training.
