Ahane took on Na Piarsaigh in the Minor A County Championship. Ahane travelled to Caherdavin and with weather conditions not in the least bit favourable to either side, both teams are to be commended for a fantastic display of camogie. Na Piarsaigh were first to score after a minute as they got a 45’ due to some great defending from Ahane. They got two more points in quick succession, and it was the 11th minute before Ahane recorded their first score of the game as Niamh Brennan got a point, due to some great work out the field. Throughout the game, both Ahane and Na Piarsaigh put together some super passages of play, with great running and passing. Niamh bought it back to a one-point game before Na Piarsaigh got a goal from a dropping long range free that sunk under the bar. First water break score Ahane 0-03 Na Piarsaigh 1-03. Sarah Cosgrove got her name on the score sheet, as Niamh added another point and then got an absolute beauty of a goal that landed in the top corner of the Na Piarsaigh net. Na Piarsaigh levelled it again, but Niamh got two more points, one from a free and one from play. As the second half was coming to an end Ciara Oliver got in on goal and made no mistake as she rattled the net. As was the theme of the game, Na Piarsaigh came straight back down the field and got a goal of their own. Half time score was Ahane 2-06 Na Piarsaigh 2-04.

The second half commenced and with more points coming from Niamh both from play and placed balls Ahane went five points up. Sarah widened the gap to six and then again Niamh got two more points to leave the gap at eight. Na Piarsaigh never went away though and fought hard as the Ahane defence made life difficult for them. They got three points on the bounce, but Kate Clohessy stemmed the flow as she got a stunning point for Ahane. Ahane’s third goal came from Rachael Donnellan as she struck a long range free, and it snuck in and under the bar and land in the bottom left-hand corner. The game ended on a full-time score of Ahane 3-14 Na Piarsaigh 2-07. A top class display for our girls who are now in the final on Wednesday v Monaleen. The time and venue is to be confirmed but we will have the fixture on our social media when we get it!
