We began our 2023 League Season against Monaleen in Mackey Park. The weather was prefect for Camogie and we started the stronger and held this advantage throughout. Aine Reynolds scored first for us, she would go on to have a serious game scoring points from all over the field. Shauna Darcy was next on the score sheet for Ahane before Monaleen levelled the game with two quick points. The first coming from a Caitlin Bonfil free and the second coming from play from Ella Hession. Áine scored the next two points the first was a free from a long range and the second was from play from a very tight angle. Emily O’Halloran stepped over the ’45 after Aoife Quinn denied Megan O’Mara a goal. Emily got Monaleen’s third point and the gap between the sides was one. Áine went on to score 1-02 in the next six minutes. Her goal coming from a free in our back line taking by Aoife, which landed with Sarah Cosgrove who gave an outstanding pass to Áine who rattled the top corner of the net. It was Emily O’Halloran who again got a score for Monaleen from a free. Before the half time whistle was blown Áine tapped over another two frees and the sides went in on a score line of Ahane 1-08 Monaleen 0-04.

Áine continued her scoring in the second half as two minutes in she put over another free. Emily O’Halloran got another for Monaleen before Sarah Cosgrove got her first point and then Áine slotted home her second goal of the day. This time is was clever play from Shauna and Sarah that managed to get Áine the ball. Amy Burke scored Monaleen’s next point again from a placed ball while Áine continued to pop points over from play and placed balls. The final play of the game saw a goal line scramble in front of the Monaleen goal which ended in Áine pulling on the ball on the ground and it hitting the net. Securing her hattrick for the day and our first win of the season! Full time score Ahane 3-12 Monaleen 0-06.
